Historic Plainfield Tour

Historic Plainfield Tour

On Saturday, May 7, 2022, Naperville Preservation held our first tour of the season - a walking tour of downtown Plainfield to see how our neighbors to the south are knocking it out of the park with historic preservation!

The architecture in the district consists of a diverse variety of styles including Greek Revival, Italianate, Queen Anne, Richardsonian Romanesque, and International. There are also vernacular house types like upright and wing, bungalows, American Foursquares, and vernacular 20th Century commercial structures.

In addition to having its downtown designated a National Historic District, Plainfield has 3 individual National Register landmarks, and 23 designated local landmarks.

Big thanks to our tour guides Sue Hasenyager, Michael Bortel, and Michael Lambert. Special thanks to Plainfield Mayor John Argoudelis who joined us to show how Plainfield works to protect its hometown heritage!
